The Society for Applied Microbiology (S''f''AM) is the voice of applied microbiology and oldest microbiology society in the UK founded in 1931. Its object is to advance for the benefit of the public the science of microbiology in its application to the environment, human and animal health, agriculture and industry. S''f''AM is an active member of the ''Royal Society of Biology'', and the ''Federation of European Microbiological Societies''. The Society's current president is Prof. Christine Dodd . ==Publications== The society is responsible for the publication of five academic journals: * ''Journal of Applied Microbiology'' * ''Letters in Applied Microbiology'' * ''Environmental Microbiology'' * ''Environmental Microbiology Reports'' * ''Microbial Biotechnology'' The Society also publishes the quarterly magazine ''Microbiologist'' for members.
